Soil Selection

On the 16th of October 2017, our group took a trip to a local garden centre within Oxford to get the soil we needed for our experiment. We chose to use Arthur Brown’s Traditional Potting Compost because if we took soil directly from the ground it could have a range of ecological matter, like bugs and worms, which would increase the rate of decomposition. Whereas, using commercially sold soil allows us to understand the chemical make-up and makes the experiment valid. The compost we used is slightly acidic with a pH 5.5 – 6.
